Cerebral Palsy is a significant neurological and muscular problem. It is a life-long condition. There is no known “cure” for the condition, but there are plenty of therapies and treatments that can help him tremendously live a life of independence and ability.
Zachary Charlan has spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, which affects all four limbs with stiff/rigid/spastic muscles. He is globally affected, has developmental delay and has many obstacles to overcome – many therapies, special medical equipment, much special attention, many doctor’s appointments ahead, and a lot of intense learning.
He receives Botox and phenol treatments three times a year to reduce his spasticity. He also receives numerous intensive therapies to help him with range of motion – physical therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, speech-communication therapy, and early intervention therapy.
Also, his eyes were severely crossed and he was diagnosed as being very far-sighted. He has received two surgeries to correct his crossing and has shown significant improvement and had his eyeglasses prescription cut in half.
Through it all, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has been with us every step of the way, listening and answering prayers throughout this time. And with Him, all things are possible. As parents, we intend to get Zachary all the therapy and treatment we possibly can to help him in all ways during his growth and development. It is our goal to provide him with the best quality of life possible given his condition. He’s a happy little 3-year-old boy full of joy.
Since Zachary’s condition is life long, there is no end in sight for the medical costs he will incur.
